Why Some People May Find Islam Attractive
Modern Christianity is often portrayed as a refuge for people barely able to function in life. It is considered the refuge for the weak and dysfunctional. So, where can a person go to find strength, boldness, and confidence? Christianity used to provide this. It used to be a religion that made people "more than conquerors" in Christ. It used to be a religion that built strong insides and outsides; that is, it transformed the hearts of men and men of hearts into capable, functional, and even superior individuals who built cities and universities, and entire cultures. But now, in 2012 the world is ruled by weaklings. By mere "hairless apes" who impose their contradictory rules on other "hairless apes". Our cultures are full of contradictory societal rules; such as it is okay for a woman to have an abortion based on the premise it is her body to do what she wants with yet prostitution is still illegal. As a Christian, I obviously oppose both of those practices but I can't support contradiction either. If we are becoming a completely atheistic or humanistic culture, then our laws will become completely arbitrary and in that; people have every right to oppose the contradiction. Here is where Islam comes in. Whether we view it as terroristic and barbaric in nature, Islam projects strength and power. It stands up against the contradictions of atheistic society. It is bold to still say homosexuality is a sin where Christianity often wavers or even compromises. It is no wonder that many people may see Islam as the world's last hope to keep the world from falling into an immoral morass. Christianity has been muted. It holds no weight and seems ineffective in further shaping cultures. No doubt, many Muslims see it as their God-given duty to fight against the humanism permeating society. To push back against sexual perversion, especially since Christianity is no longer doing this. And in its effort to vanquish perversion and immorality, Islam sees Christians as compromisers who also need to be pushed aside. As a Christian, I obviously have no love for Islam. I consider it a 7th century Arabian cult, however I can understand why people may be attracted to Islam. People are fed up with liars. Fed up with immorality running amok. Fed up with corruption. To many of these fed-up people, Islam seems to be the answer or at least the means to remove those compromisers and corrupt people standing in the way of reform.
