Theological perspective that advocates God chooses who will be 'saved' and who will not -- often called the 'elect' (saved) & reprobate (unsaved). Although the perspective is named for 16th century theologian John Calvin, in its basic form it is merely called 'determinism' and was taught all through Christian history but mainly advanced during the Reformation by almost all of the original Reformers.
