OQO Model 2, Firefox & other geeky stuff

As the time approaches that I'll be buying my daughter a laptop computer for school, I've been trying to stay ahead of the curve so that whatever I buy her won't be outdated the day after I purchase it (yeah right). I've been looking at what might be called "micro-computers". These are hand-held computers that I imagine will eventually replace laptops & cell phones...well if they add phone capabilities. The micro-computer I'm interested in is called the OQO Model 2 (see video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRPULz_G7hI). Supposedly it is even more powerful than most laptops. I like the fact that it looks like you can dock it & then use a bigger screen & standard keyboard & mouse when you are stationary. The next thing I wanted to talk about it the FireFox browser. Everyone has heard of IE Internet Explorer, but I find IE is sometimes buggy & it is often slower at loading than FireFox. You can download FireFox from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox I know I have also promoted Google's browser, Google Crome, but I am finding that though Crome is fast & clean, since it is so new there are a lot of things it can't read/display. FireFox has been at it longer & has worked out more of these bugs. One thing I wanted to do as I made the transition over to completely using FireFox is to make sure that almost all of my applications use FireFox to access the web. The best & most complete way I have found is by inserting this line in the RUN field of your computer: firefox.exe -silent -nosplash -setDefaultBrowser You can access RUN under the START button. On Windows Vista, just type RUN in the search field & it should come up. If you have security on, it make ask you if you want to complete the process. Say yes. After doing this, most programs should use FireFox to access the Internet. (Make sure you have FireFox installed obviously) Ok, that's enough geekiness for today.
