TKC was started in 2004 (see here) more as a personal journal for the writings of Roderick Edwards. As time went on, friends & readers wanted to interact & participate. The site then was restructured as a community site. As Roderick passed through various theological perspectives, the site attracted individuals associated with those perspectives. For some time, Roderick had embraced the hyperpreteristi view (hyperpreterism = believing Jesus returned in AD70, the resurrection of the believers already happened, & the Judgment is done) & thus TKC was for a few years devoted to promoting that view. In about early to mid 2007, Roderick aggressively began to doubt & oppose the hyperpreterist view, mainly due to the fact that hyperpreterism is built on the premise that almost 2000 years of historic Christian interpretation has been wrong when it comes to eschatology. Roderick saw how arrogant & erroneous this was & began to openly question the leaders of the hyperpreterist movement.
By early 2008, it became obvious that a purge of several years of hyperpreterist material from the site was going to be necessary. This was being done manually but there remained many articles laced with the hyperpreterist sheen. In late July 2008, a software issue caused the site to be inaccessible for a few days. During this time, Roderick considered & adopted the idea to completely start over with the site. A clean install of the underlying software was implemented & Roderick began to work on reformatting the basic structure & look of the site.
NEW FEATURES:
Actually, much of the feel is retroactive back to the original TKC website, but some new features are being implemented:
- Glossary of theological terms used on the site
- Text sizer (some people suggested larger text)
- Language Translation options (I hope to make this a big part of the site)
FAQ
I want to answer some of the questions that will now doubt come up.
- Can we still access former content? -- Not unless I re-add it specifically which I may do for some content. Feel free to use the CONTACT link to the left & request specfic content.
- Will the site be a community site again? -- I don't have intentions on that. I just do not have the time to administrate a community site anymore.
- Will TKC contain your "anti-hyperpreterist" material -- I do not intend on it. I have been working with other established "anti-hyperpreterist" writers & sites & do post some material on others sites. See: http://preteristblog.com for example.
- What kind of content will TKC offer? -- Much of the style & subject matter of articles will be the same as previously enjoyed but I want to do more in the way of verse-by-verse (expositional) Bible studies, book reviews/studies as well. I will also try to expand the audio & video options.
- Can people become members of TKC? -- At the present, I am not offering membership registration, especially since a) the site isn't meant to be a community site b) much of the abilities a member would afford are already offered to guest users, such as the ability to comment on content. Many sites do not allow unregistered users this ability. However, those comments will be moderated, I typically will post even critical comments.
- Can people submit content? -- Maybe, I haven't given it much thought, but right now I'd probably rather just link to content on another site.
- Is there a way to financially donate to TKC? -- Not really, TKC has always been a site more about the content rather than pretending to be a "ministry", however I am thinking about pairing up with some ministries such as bookstores that offer classic theological material. I don't know yet.
- Will TKC continue the podcast "Kingdom Commentaries"? -- I intend to, however some of the previous audios I may removed since they may be in conflict with my present perspective. You can still access the Feedburner site for Kingdom Commentaries by going here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/thekingdomcome/MTVA
Let me know if you have any other questions you'd like to pose. I hope to have the site loaded up with a fair amount of content by the end of August 2008. Thanks for visiting.
