Site Stuff

Well, 2009 quickly approaches & unfortunately I haven't been able to accomplish a few goals for this website.  I wanted to have a structure in place that would nicely allow me to present side-by-side Bible text & commentary, as I intend to write a commentary of the entire Bible.  I didn't want to begin this work until I have a nice structure in place.  I've been looking at something called API that may allow for something like what I'm looking for but only with the ESV Bible.  I'd like to allow the user to always access different versions instantly yet leave my side commentary intact as the user moves from version to version.

In the process of trying to work this out, I have found a new Scripture filter for the site.  I've always had for the site, a Scripture filter that automatically changes references into links but this new one allows for tool-tip & hover-over/mouse-over instant display.  Try it out on this one: Eph 5:11 (testing version-specific Eph 5:11 NIV  Eph 5:11 ESV).

So, stay tuned in 2009 as I hope to have something working early on & then I can begin working on the commentary portion.

I don't know about the API thing, but I've always like this Jewish way of doing a commentary: http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/8165/showrashi/true/jewish... (Allows user to pick ON or OFF.)

I know frames are passé, but I think maybe you could accomplish what you want if you had your version in one frame and your commentary in the other...

Frames for Bible Study

Hi there again Veritas,

I looked over that site.  Pretty good -- it looks like it is using individual folders for each chapter.  I'd have to look at the coding.  I think what you suggested about frames will be the way I have to go to accomplish what I'm trying to do, however it doesn't make it easy for printing.  I wish webpages worked like Excel coding, then I could do it up real fancy :-)

Show | Hide feature

Roderick,

Here's another site which uses "Show | Hide" with stuff below which might work: http://cep.calvinseminary.edu/encounterText/commentaries.php?pNav=cep

Or here's a site that uses "Show Table of Contents [+]": http://www.questia.com/library/religion/christianity/the-bible/poetic-bo...

I like this version too. It's a "Hide/Show" but it allows you to show the Bible Text, Disclaimer & Literary Analysis and each of the boxes is in a different color! http://biblefootnotes.com/wiki/

Anyway, these might give you a couple more ideas...

I've always wanted to do the same thing, so if you figure out a good way, then maybe you can help me set one up later! ;o)

Theses are great V, I'll look at the source code & test it out.  Thanks a lot.
