An Explanation to Friends & Foes

An Explanation to Friends & FoesBecause I am receiving emails from friends & foes alike wondering about my apparent sudden theological shift, I thought I'd take this opportunity to give an explanation.  Obviously it isn't just my eschatology that has changed but all of my "ologies" are being affected.  This should be expected as I have always advocated that all of the "ologies" of theology are intertwined & should not & cannot be compartmentalized.

My theology, like most American Protestants or Evangelicals had been based on a few concepts:

  1. That Sola Scriptura (Bible Alone) equates to private or ultimately independent interpretation.
  2. That the true Church was never represented within the Roman Catholic/Greek Catholic Church.
  3. That the creeds, councils, & confessions of the historic Christian Church are to be approached with an amount of contempt if not outright disdain.
  4. That the role of the apostles in the foundation of the Church should be downplayed or else we may sound too "Catholic".

With these typical American Protestant concepts for a basis, I was prime to accept & advocate the most outlandish, unhistoric, & unchristian teachings.

This is a really amazing presentation of a table-top computer with i-phone like abilities.  This is the future.  Take a look:

Supporting Christian Education

Support Christian SchoolsOver the several years that this website has been in operation, people send me messages asking how they may support the website or the "ministry".  I have never accepted any funding for this website & rather have tried to help others launch their own presence but now I have something I want to share with vistors that they may be interested in supporting.

A local Christian school which has been in operation for many decades is seeking financial support to keep providing quality Christian education to children K-12.  There are very few places where educators are helping parents "train up" their child in biblical precepts, thus if you think this is something you can support -- that support would be very appreciated.

As I want to make sure you are completely comfortable with supporting this School, please check out their website so that you can see they are a legitimate organization: http://www.suburbanbaptist.org/School/

No funds will go to me or my website site.  All donations go directly to helping fund the Christian School.  Let's see if we can overwhelm them with blessings.  Thank you for your help.  God bless & keep you.

OpenOffice: A Microsoft Alternative

OpenOffice LogoThe company I work for is constantly increasing our workforce & with that is the need for more computers & with the need for more computers comes the need to license the software on those computers (unless you're the type that thinks it is ethical to hack everything).

This can quickly become expensive so our IT department came up with an alternative.  OpenOffice is a freeware system comparable to Microsoft's Office package (Excel, Word, Access...).

As our office's unofficial Excel guru it is my job to help implement this portion of the package.  At first I didn't think too highly of the package but now I've even downloaded it on my home computer & more than likely will remove my old Microsoft package.

Why Your Computer May Not be Able to Run Audio or Video From the Internet

Helping Speed up your computerA friend sent me an email asking for some help with his computer.  It seems he can't enjoy audios or videos on the Internet, like the ones we host here on TKC (audios / videos).  I wrote him back & thought that perhaps what I shared with him might be helpful to some of you as well.  So, what follows is that reply.  Keep in mind, these directions are for people running Windows & Internet Explorer.

As with anything there could be several things happening:

First, are you on dial up?  If you're on dial-up THAT is the problem -- videos & audios are too intensive for dial-up.

TKC on YouTube, GodTube, Google Video, & Yahoo Video

Roderick ETKC -- thekingdomcome.com is now taking advantage of visual media by advancing our video presence on the Internet.  Over the last few days I have been setting up accounts on YouTube, GodTube, Google Video, & Yahoo Video in an effort to establish venues where the Kingdom of Christ can be advocated through visual presentations. The first presentation is a new version of The Reformation Polka which humorously commemorates Martin Luther's contribution to the Protestant Reformation.

My hope is to start producing audio/visual formats of some of the content readers regularly enjoy on TKC, such as a presentation on Church History, The Reformation, & other topics.  The intent is to not only broaden the reach but to give visitors to TKC another solidly biblical method of sharing the message of Christ, the Gospel & the Kingdom with others.

Please let me me know if you have any ideas you'd like me to try to implement with these sites.  Thanks -- Roderick

New Cell Phone Page AccessTKC -- thekingdomcome.com is pleased to announce that cell phone users can now easily access the most recent 20 articles via their cell phones or mobile data devices (such as pda's or blackberry's)

TKC has been working to format a special webpage that works better when accessing with a cell phone.  The link to the special page is:

http://thekingdomcome.com/mobile.html

Once on the special page, there are simple links that will allow you to read any of the 20 most recent articles in a cell phone-friendly format.  I have also added a page that will allow the user to directly access some of the more recent "Kingdom Commentaries", the official podcast of thekingdomcome.com. (WARNING: Accessing the podcast via a cell phone or mobile data device may only be possible by users with a large data capacity)

I hope visitors will find this new feature useful.  I welcome feedback via the Contact Us form.

Thank you for participating at TKC.

Reformation Month

Welcome to Reformation Month at TKC!

October 31st, 1517 marks the day when tradition has it a monk named Martin Luther posted a list of 95 points against the Roman Catholic Church.  Congregations that have knowledge of their heritage often commemorate this day every last Sunday in the month of October.  The day is known as Reformation Day.

Default to NKJV

The automated scripture filtering which "urlifies" Bible references had been defaulted to the NIV translation.  I am attempting to rework the code to default it to the NKJV.  If anyone wants to have the filter point to other translations, simply include the translation abbreviation after the references -- like this: John 3:16 YLT

Supported translations are:

'NIV|NASB|AMP|NLT|KJV|ESV|CEV|NET|NKJV|KJ21|ASV|WE|YLT|DARBY|WYC|NIV-UK|MSG|NIRV'

If all went well, John 3:16 without any translation abbreviation should now point to the NKJV.  I think any older articles that were filtered through the NIV default will still be defaulted to the NIV unless I update the article.

Resource Center Updated!!!

TKC's Resource Center Updated

TKC -- The Kingdom Come has been around since before January of 2004 (see here) & all during that time it has been the vision to bring together the most revelant & useful theological topics & materials.  I hope I have been able to live up to this vision.  I thank the many people throughout the years who have helped via ideas or participation. The addition of Kingdom Commentaries (see here), the over 200 rotating visual presentations (see here), & now at the urging of others I'm trying to put together a top notch Resource Center of links to Bible translations, theological studies, & just useful materials.  Please bear with me as I continue to work at this process.  I am adding recommended books & places to find out of print books (none of this Leonard Sweet/Brian McLaren postmodern garbage being peddled today ) -- thanks to the couple of people who emailed me recently asking about recommended reading.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE UPDATED RESOURCE CENTER

  • Links to major online Bibles where you can compare multiple translations
  • Links to studies on relevant & age-old theological issues (maybe resolve some)
  • Links to various online translation programs

As it grows, I'll have to modify the categorization.  If you find useful links you want to suggest, email them to me via the contact link. Thanks again for participating in & recommending TKC to others.  We can only do our small part to keep Christianity solidly Bible-based rather than the current trend of pop-psychology & sheer emotionalism these days that is being pawned off as "Christian".

May God bless & keep you as you grow a relationship with the Jesus Christ of the Bible.
