Phillip's blogSatisfaction in GodSufficiency of Christ Death in the Gospel of John (Pt 5)John is conveying in the usage of deity titles that Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh. The use of these titles presents Jesus as the source of life in regards to the bread and resurrection statements. John conveys that Jesus is the guided to life out of darkness in the use of the light and good shepherd statements and finally as God in the use of the ego eimi declarations. John is seen as clearly explaining to his audience that Christ has revealed God to the world. Matera states, “in the Fourth Gospel, the Son comes into the world to reveal the Father to the world so that the world
THE SUFFICIENCY OF CHRIST DEATH AS VIEWED IN THE GOSPEL OF JOHN (PT4)The effectiveness of Christ death and the application of that death to the atonement is found in the deity of Jesus Christ. The concept of the Trinity will not be addressed in this discussion. It is assumed that the readers of this paper assent to the truth of the Trinity as fact based on the Scriptural evidence. A proper understanding must be arrived at as one considers the nature of deity as found in the person of Jesus Christ. Therefore the following will be considered; the Arian heresy, John’s intent of expressing Christ deity in title usage, conveyance and audience reaction.
THE SUFFICIENCY OF CHRIST DEATH AS VIEWED IN THE GOSPEL OF JOHN (PT3)The death of Christ secondly was based on a determined plan of the Godhead. Luke 22:22 expresses that the crucifixion of the Son of man was determined. Act 2:23 gives further clarity from whom this determination first extended in that, God himself determined the death of Jesus Christ and furthermore fulfilled his promise to Israel by raising a Saviour in whom is found Jesus Christ. The Old and New Testament records put forth a definite and resolute plan of God to redeem mankind from eternal death. The Old Testament record prophetically sees the determined death of Christ in Gen 3:15-16, therefore what is seen is a fluid and eternal plan revealed in human history.

SUFFICIENCY OF CHRIST IN THE GOSPEL OF JOHN PT 2The glory of God himself is the express reason that is found biblically for the primary action involved in the death of Christ. Contained within God obtaining that glory, what is found is that in the death of Christ the eternal effects of sin is dealt with and peace is made with God.
The Christ death effectively dealt with the eternal consequences of sin. The Genesis account records that Adam was in perfect communion with God which involved Adam walking with God and enjoying the Creation that he was given to be a steward over. Adam then is seen willfully rejecting that communion through violation of the commandment of God (Gen 1:17) and thereby plunging all of mankind into death; eternal separation from God. Therefore, man remained separated from communion with God and under his holy wrath because of sin. It was therefore necessary that God provide redemption “in Christ Jesus, whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood”(Rom 3:24-25).
Secondly, what is seen in the reason for Christ death leading effectively to the glory of God was that peace was made with God. Regenerated man is at peace with God based on the atoning work of Jesus Christ. Mankind prior to the atonement was not at peace and therefore resided under the wrath of God. The biblical record has ample evidence in which God describes man as being under his wrath and not under peaceable conditions( Ps 1:1-2, Rom 1:8 and Eph 2:3). Thus it must be asserted that God himself has enemies. His enemies are those that reject the atoning work of Jesus Christ. They are impenitent unbelievers under the preaching of the Gospel, [who] are the vilest and most ungrateful of all God’s creation.[1]
The impact then of Christ atoning work is then found in the fact that his shed blood achieved what man could never have accomplished upon his own merits. God therefore based upon his own pleasure has preached peace by Jesus Christ and as a result those who come to Christ are justified by faith and have “peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 5:1). Therefore what the biblical record expresses is two reasons for Christ death which including the atonement for sin and that peace would be established.

A Proper Perspective on the Glory of God in ChristA Proper Perspective on the Glory of God in Christ
The book of Malachi stated prophetically “but unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” The image we have presented to us is the Messiah in His entire glorious splendor reigning in our presence as we walk in the gates of the New Jerusalem.
The righteousness that extends from Christ is what brought healing to our God hating lives and we now go forth and we grow in His presence. It is proper to view God’s glory in this manner. It is His righteousness that has brought completion to our lives and nothing that we can ever produce. Mankind is deluded in all its sensibilities to believe that healing is found in finances, power or mystical experiences. It is once again true that the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. Therefore, God’s glorious righteousness is utterly sufficient in dealing with those who remain outside the gates of the city.

The Glory of God in Christ. The Christian walk is glorious when we as believers consider the fact that in Christ face we behold the glory of God. While we are pilgrims on this earth we are afforded the opportunity to meditate on what the glories of God are even though it is but a glimpse of what we shall truly behold when we stand before Him and the body He shall give us. Christ alone and the glories that He reveals to us are above all substantial in carrying us along this mighty walk that God has called us to. Some may ask, "How do we actually behold the glory of God in Christ?" Well to begin with, we can daily read His Scriptures. It is a practice that from time to time, we all neglect, but it should be an activity that we should strive for. In reading the Scriptures and beholding Christ, we see the glory of God's supremacy, omnipotence, sovereignty, grace and mercy bestowed upon us His people daily. Second, we can behold the glory of God in Christ, by loving one another. It is by loving one another, that the world will know that we are His. We must show love one to another.
